Customs Officer promotes self to top rank, wants CGC position

An Assistant Superintendent of Customs identified as  Nura Dalhatu on Monday reported to duty dressed in the uniform and rank of a Deputy Comptroller General  of Customs, a top rank before becoming a Comptroller General.

Dalhatu, from Katsina State, reportedly went on to visit the sitting Comptroller General of Customs, Hameed Ali, a retired Colonel of the Nigerian Army.

The officer was said to have told Ali that he was in his office to take over as the new CGC as directed by the president of Nigeria.
The Customs Authority, however, through its Spokesman Joseph Attah, stated that the officer may be battling with a ‘troubled’ state of mind.
He said: “What happened was that, an assistant superintendent of Customs came to the office today wearing the rank of a Deputy Comptroller General.
“From questions and answers that followed, it was obvious that he was not in the right frame of mind, so a Doctor was immediately invited. He is presently undergoing medical examination at the medical unit of the
service.”
