An ICT Centre at MAN Oron

The Maritime Academy of Nigeria located in
Oron Community in Akwa Ibom Sate, has expressed some goodwill as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) to its host community by providing two schools
and a hospital with key needs.

Courtesy of the academy, the schools; Mary
Annie, and Methodist Boys School, now have 100 chairs each for the students, to
support the improvement of their learning environment.

Rector of the Academy, Commodore Emmanuel Effedua
(rtd) speaking on the side-lines of the recent commissioning  of some ultra-modern facilities in the
academy, said the academy decided to support the host community in ways that
could develop its youths and help them stay focused on their academic pursuit.

He added that in the same vein of
supporting young people with learning materials, the academy also made
available ICT Centres for both schools, to ensure the students have access to
improved learning tools as is expected for global learning standards.

His words: “A few weeks back we built an
ICT Centre each for the two schools. We have also got in touch with a
consultant who would provide them with lecturers for one year.

“The schools will also have internet
provision for one year, and they can use the place for their CBT exams. This is
our own way of making learning meaningful for the young people in the community.”

More on the goodwill from the academy, 100
JAMB forms were made available for those who sat for the last University
Qualifying examination.

Away from provisions for students, the
academy have also made roads within the community motorable.

The community hospital is also a
beneficiary of the academy’s goodwill as it now gets supply of diesel to provide
constant electricity for the hospital.

Pregnant woman no longer have to take
diesel to the hospital as part of requirement before being attended to for
delivery or any surgical operation.

The academy was pleased that its CSR support
was making remarkable impact, and hoped for improvement.
