Nigerian Navy @ 66: Western Naval Command holds medical rhapsody for 4500 persons in Lagos

As part of the Nigerian Navy Week 2022 celebrations, the Headquarters Western Naval Command organized a medical outreach for its host community in Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Area of Lagos State, on Tuesday 31 May, 2022.

The outreach which was held at the Local Government Headquarters in Ajegunle was aimed at providing free healthcare services for members of the community ranging from consultations to checkups as well as giving out drugs, medical glasses amongst others for free.

The Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command Rear Admiral Yakubu Wambai, who was represented by the Chief Staff Officer Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Hamza Kaoje, while giving his remarks, appreciated members of the community for turning up in their numbers.

He expressed delight that the Command was hosting such a germane event as part of her anniversary celebrations, and went on to speak about the essence of the event which is a means of fostering the bond between the Nigerian Navy and the host community.

Rear Adm. Wambai  reiterated that the civil-military relations gesture was solely humanitarian and has no other hidden agenda or intentions buried underneath because like every responsible organization, the Nigerian Navy is committed to the wellbeing of members of her community, which is why the Nigerian Navy hospitals are open to everyone from everywhere.

He added that “We have long identified with you as being part of us and we being part of your immediate community.’’

While thanking the community for their patience, he implored the people to maximize the benefits of the event as there are officers and ratings available to provide them with information about the Nigerian Navy and health- related matters.

In his response, the Chairman of Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Council, Honourable Fatai Adekunle Ayoola, who was represented by the Vice Chairman, Honourable Lucky Uduikhue, thanked the Nigerian Navy for the effort in putting such feat together as they as a community understands what it entails to organize events of such magnitude.

He acknowledged the fact that the community has over the years benefitted from the gestures of the Command and thanked the Navy for choosing the community amongst the numerous in the area as benefactors of this event.

The event also had in attendance members of the Local Government Council and some Principal Staff Officers of the Western Naval Command.
