General Uthman commends activities of Operation Awatse

The Director of Communication, Defence Headquarters Abuja, Major General Abdullahi Uthman, has applauded Operation AWATSE for its vigour in curbing criminal activities and security breaches within the Operation Area.

He made this remarks when he paid a courtesy call on the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Jason Gbassa.

 

Rear Admiral Jason Gbassa (Middle) flanked on the immediate right by Maj. Gen. Abdullahi Uthman and on his immediate left by Commodore Daupreye Matthew, and other officers on the team.

Major General Uthman emphasized the crucial nature of effective communication in any military operation.

He reiterated that his visit was to assess the operational efficiency of communication equipment in Operation AWATSE.

The Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, who equally doubles as the Force Commander Operation AWATSE, while receiving the Director of Communication Defence Headquarters in his office, asserted that the Western Naval Command was involved in series of operations which would continue to promote peace, tranquility and economic activities to continue to thrive in the Western Naval Command Area of Responsibility.

Rear Admiral Gbassa stated that “in every visit you must gain additional experience and also have firsthand information on the assessment of facilities.”

He therefore, saw the visit of the Director of Communication, Defence Headquarters appropriate, considering the relevance of effective communication in contemporary operations.

In a related development, the Commanding Officer of Operation AWATSE, Commander Samuel Omotosho, said that Operation AWATSE was established on 4 October, 2014, by the Nigerian Navy to curb vandalism and illegal bunkering around Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation pipelines from Atlas Cove, Lagos to Mosimi Depot in Ogun State.

He stated that the operation was taken over by the Defence Headquarters on 10 October, 2015, and the mandate expanded to incorporate anti-robbery, anti-kidnapping, anti-cultism and related criminal activities.

Also, during the visit, Commodore Daupreye Matthew; the Command Operation Officer, Western Naval Command, who is also the Chief of Staff Operation AWATSE, hinted the Director of Communication Defence Headquarters that Operation AWATSE is organized into the Force Headquarters, Land, Maritime and Air Components.

He added that the various components carry out deployments at designated sectors and hot sports that cover the stretch of Lagos and parts of Ogun States.
