NIMASA, NOSDRA joint team save situation on coastline fire incident near Badagry

A joint marine environment management team from the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) reportedly stopped the fire from escalating at Ashipa village near Badagry coastline.

The fire on Wednesday May 25 reportedly broke out on a smugglers’ boat that was carrying PMS and got involved in a boat mishap.

The team, with the support of the villagers, was able to bring out the sunken boat onto the beach as the fire was put out.

This clarified information on what happened, showing that it was not a case of burst crude oil or gas pipeline.

Although not so much damage was done to the coastline, a number of the palm trees along the coastline were burnt and area suffered air pollution.
