Master mariners condemn burning of NPA building

The Nigerian Association of Master Mariners (NAMM) has condemned the attack by hoodlums on the headquarters building of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), under the guise of #EndSARS protest.

President of the Association, Captain Tajudeen Alao, said that the news of the action by the hoodlums came to the master mariners as a shock.

He lamented that the resultant effect of the action by the hoodlums could pose a huge economic threat, which would possibly cause more pain to Nigerians generally.

“As master mariners, we condemn this attack on the NPA. The Control room, seaward gateway to Nigeria is disabled.

“The action is uncalled for, and capable of paralysing shipping business in Nigeria for a long time. Of course, this action shows that those people are economic saboteurs,” Captain Alao said.

The master mariner argued that the NPA has been very supportive to the industry as a Government Agency, through its regulatory responsibility and other support for industry activities for growth.

He said: “In areas of corporate responsibilities….manpower development, enabling environment for marine enterprises etc, aside core function as regulator for commercial shipping.

“It is on record that the NPA always support media houses, and was pioneer in training cadets.

“Many of the cadets grew to the peak of their career and had added value to growth of the Industry.”
