COVID-19: WISTA to distribute protective gears, hand sanitizers to port workers

In the face of the continuing efforts to curtail the spread of the COVID-19 disease, the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA) Nigeria Chapter, at the weekend agreed on an intervention plan to distribute protective gears including hand gloves, face masks to workers at the ports.
President of the Association, Mrs Eunice Ezeoke, told our correspondent that the executives planned on the initiative after an online meeting where they discussed the need for their social responsibility at this time.

 
“In view of the above, the Exco convened an extraordinary online meeting to discuss our social responsibility and intervention in the face of CORVID-19 Pandemic as it affects the Maritime
sector. 
 
“We resolved to support Port/Dock workers in promoting personal hygiene and sensitizing their community on preventive measures as advised by World Health Organisation and other authorized
health practitioners,” she said.
 
“All Excos agreed that we shall donate Hand sanitizers; Soaps; Hand gloves; Nose masks; Baby wipes; Disinfectants and more to Port/Dock workers as soon as possible within one week,” Ezeoke
said.
 
In addition to the items to be purchased we plan to circulate fliers with WISTA educational stickers and post in port areas.
 
The Association seeks support from members to enable it begin distribution of the items from Saturday 28th March to Friday 3rd April, 2020.
