APM Terminals announces 50% slash on charges for overtime cargoes, gives time frame

Owners of overtime cargoes at the APM Terminals will now enjoy a 50 per cent cut in charges, but that would remain binding only till March 15, 2020, according to the terminal.

The APM Terminals Apapa made the announcement on Monday saying it was in effort to check the congestion in Apapa port, as it disclosed that the affected containers at the port were 1,290.

It, however, warned that as from March 16, any container not cleared would have to pay full charges.

In a notice to importers, the terminal operator said the measure was in support of the efforts of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to decongest the port to enable the discharge of new containers.

Part of the notice reads: “We urgently request the importers of below listed 1290 containers that have been in the terminal for 365 days to 4000 days, to clear them.

“To assist importers, and in support of government policy, the Terminal will offer 50percent discount on the storage charges for any of the listed containers delivered until 15th of March 2020. The full tariff will be payable from 16th of March 2020.”
