Amaechi inspects Apapa Port end of Lagos-Ibadan rail project

The Honourable Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, on Friday  inspected the Apapa Port part of the Lagos-Ibadan railway project, making it a second time the inspection would be done in one month.

The minister said the inspection became necessary as a result of his dissatisfaction with the level and pace of work in that part of the project.

It is on record that the minister, since inception of the project, embarks on inspection of the project once monthly.

Amaechi tweeted, saying the Chairman of the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) Group, Zhao Dianlong, and the Managing Director of CCECC Nigeria, Jiang Yi Gao, accompanied him on inspection of the project today.

His tweet reads: “Today, we are inspecting the Lagos-Ibadan rail line again, with emphasis on the Apapa Port axis. This time with the Chairman of CCECC Group, Zhao Dianlong & the MD, CCECC Nigeria, Jiang Yi Gao. I told them I am unhappy with the pace of work & it’s imperative they meet set targets.”

The minister also disclosed the expected time of delivery of the project for the minor and major train stations.

“They've told us that the rail line up to Apapa would be completed by April, June for the minor stations and August for the major stations. We however hope that they'll speed up the work and finish earlier, so we can move on to Ibadan-Kano rail line.”
