Bandits kill two customs officers, injure one on duty

From Left: ASC II Omale, and ASC I Ohiremen

Two officers of the  Nigeria Customs Service(NCS) have lost
their lives to an attack by armed men along Lokoja-Okene road, while a third officer
was left to battle for his life with gunshot wounds.

In a statement made available to newsmen,
Public Relations Officer of the Niger/Kogi Command, Lomba Benjamin, said the
incident, which happened on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2019 at 10 pm, claimed the lives
of an Assistant Superintendent of Customs One, S Ohiremen, and Assistant
Superintendent of Customs Two SM Omale.

The third victim of the attack, Deputy
Superintendent of Customs, HI Oladapo, who sustained gunshot injury, is said to
be receiving medical attention at the Federal Medical Centre in Lokoja.

The Customs Area Controller (CAC)
in charge of the Command, Abba-Kassim Yussuf, paid a condolence visit to the family
of ASC II Omale, who was buried in Ayamba village, Kogi State on Friday, Dec.13,
2019 according to Islamic rights.

The Command disclosed that ASC I
Ohiremen would be buried in his home town in Ondo State by January 2020.

The CAC, however, assured the bereaved
family that the NCS would deploy all necessary mechanisms to ensure the
perpetrators of the evil act are brought to book.

Meanwhile, the NCS urged
aggrieved members of the public to turn to the Courts to address their issues,
should they feel that their wares are being seized unjustly, rather than resort
to violence and killing of officers, who have their families and loved ones to
care for.

The Command added that it would
never be deterred from doing its lawful duties for the economic progress of the
nation, while those found wanting in the case of the attacks and killing would
be made to face the wrath of the law.
