NPA boosts efforts to check attacks on vessels berthing at Lagos Ports

The
Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Thursday expressed concern over attacks on
vessels berthing at the Lagos Port Complex, saying efforts were on to checkmate the unhealthy development.

Managing Director of the NPA, Hadiza Bala Usman said the management has taken
up the issue, adding that such issues will not be allowed to continue.


Usman who spoke during a stakeholders meeting at Rockview Hotel, Apapa,
disclosed that a number of strategies are being put in place to check such
attacks.


The NPA MD who was represented by the Executive Director, Marine and
Operations, NPA, Mr. Sekonte Davis, said that such strategies when reinforced
will bring to book those behind the attacks on vessels berthing at LPC.


She disclosed that more patrol boats will be acquired to patrol waterfronts.
The NPA boss called on the management of ENL Consortium to wake up to the
challenge of checking its internal security system to avoid such attacks.


This was as most of the attacks take place with the berths handled by ENL which
specailises in bulk cargoes.


She said that there could be sabotage in the system, advising, “ ENL should
also increase its operational vehicle patrols as this could help to detect and
forestall attacks at the berths.”
