SSE agrees on mandatory maintenance requirements for lifeboats, rescue crafts

(IMO)The
Sub-Committee on Ship Systems and Equipment (SSE) at its 3rd session meeting
which held in March at  the IMO Headquarters,
agreed on the mandatory requirements relating to periodic servicing and
maintenance of lifeboats and rescue boats, launching appliances and release
gear.
The Sub-Committee had worked towards
finalizing the draft amendments to SOLAS chapter III and the draft mandatory
MSC resolution on requirements for periodic servicing and maintenance of
lifeboats and rescue boats, launching appliances and release gear.

It
said that the draft texts would be submitted to the Maritime Safety Committee(MSC
96) for  consideration with a view for adoption.

Also
discussed were matters related to measures for onboard lifting appliances and
winches, passenger ship safety, the safety of MODUs, and protection against
crushing of people during the daily operation of watertight doors.

The
session was opened by IMO Secretary-General, Kitack Lim and chaired by Dr.
Susumu Ota (Japan).
