7 new Railway Corridors to be created, says transportation minister

The Federal Government will soon create seven more rail corridors of standard gauge railway in the country, the Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi has said.

Amaechi who spoke in Port Harcourt during the inauguration of Port Harcourt – Aba Mass Transit Train Services, said the idea would be a public-private-partnership that will modernize as well as expand railway transportation in every part of the country.
This, he said, will include remodelling and redevelopment of all the railway stations in the country.
Amaechi explained that part of the programme is for the federal government to open new railway lines to improve on the existing rail network.
He said, “The Ministry of Transportation has carried out feasibility studies to create seven additional rail corridors of standard gauge railways under the public-private-partnership initiative.”
The Minister also disclosed that government was planning to sponsor five bills to be passed into law by the National Assembly to create room for an effective private sector participation in the transport sector.
