Outgoing Area Controller urges Customs Officers on integrity, trade promotion

Outgoing CAC Apapa Area Command, Eporwei Edike addressing officers at the command

The outgoing Customs Area Controller, Apapa Area 1 Command, Mr
Eporwei Edike, on Monday advised officers to maintain the integrity the command
is known for, even as he leaves for a higher office.

Edike was recently promoted an Assistant Comptroller General and
in acting capacity as coordinator in charge of Customs Zone A, Lagos.
He charged the officers to do their jobs in the manner that
would promote trade to benefit the nation’s economy.
He warned against any form of delays of documents, except in cases
where faults were found in declaration.
He said that every officer that worked with integrity could rise
to the highest level of the service.
“All the turnaround that happened here was with your support,
therefore, hold dearly the things we taught you and work to facilitate trade.
“Everybody here is a potential CG. But you have to remain on
board to get there and not when you fall off.
“Do your assignment in the manner approved by the Board,
which is the only way for you to go up further.
“There is a government of change, so, you will remain on
board when you change for the better.
“But you will be pushed off board if you are discovered to be
otherwise as the days of impunity are gone,” he said.
Edike, however, said that no one should be allowed to short-change
the Federal Government by way of under-declaration.
He said, ” if there is fault with a declaration and they are
found wanting, let them pay to the last kobo because one kobo out of a million
naira cannot be the same.”
He said that the command would continue to perform creditably due
to the structure put in place to run the system perfectly even in the absence
of any person.
Edike, after inspecting the guard in parade, handed over the
affairs of the command to the most senior Deputy Controller, Mr Maitizumahs
Gwani.
Until now, Gwani was the DC in charge of EKO Support Service.
Edike said Gwani’s assignment was temporary as only the
Comptroller-General had Authority to appoint a new controller for the command.
He concluded by advising the officers at the command not to heed
any illegal advice from anybody.
