PAN appreciates Customs for clamp-down on poultry smuggling

CAC Western Marine Command, Umar Yususf

The Leadership of the Poultry Association of Nigeria(PAN) has appreciated the Nigeria Customs Service(NCS)Western Marine Command, for its efforts at fighting smuggling of frozen poultry products.

This is contained in a letter of appreciation sent to the command, and made available to newsmen on Friday in Lagos.
The letter, signed  by Mr Onallo Akpa, the Director-General of PAN, commended the performance of the operatives of the command in the operations of the ‘Hawk Descend.’
The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that the NCS established the ‘Hawk
Descend’ on July 7 to put all resources together fighting against the smuggling of frozen poultry products from neighbouring countries.
Akpa described the anti-smuggling operations as a patriotic duty, worthy of supporting poultry farming in Nigeria.
He said, “PAN and the entire Nigerian Poultry Farmers appreciate the Western Marine Command for the excellent and outstanding performance through various acts of onslaught, arrest and confiscation of smuggled poultry products into the country.
“This is very unprecedented, as we can boldly say that the operation “Hawk Descend” is a highly successful exercise.
“We are proud of your zeal and patriotism to duty, and pray that the good God continue to guide and protect you in the tasks ahead.”

Available records show that the command has seized and destroyed over 5000 cartons of smuggled poultry products since the last four weeks that the operation started.
