Federal Ministry of Finance underfunding Nigeria Customs Service- NAGAFF

The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has condemned what it describes as the deliberate underfunding of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) by the Federal Ministry of Finance. It also called for a partial autonomy of the service, to enable it meet its responsibilities.

In a letter with ref: NAGAFF/HQ/101/36 dated August 5, 2014, addressed to President Goodluck Jonathan, the association said the underfunding of the Nigeria Customs Service(NCS) had affected the Service in its core function of  trade facilitation , in addition to increasing its security watch on the nation’s borders.

NAGAFF said that “We have observed from our strategic point as critical stakeholders that at the moment, it is apparent that the Nigeria Customs Service is being under-funded, which may be currently affecting its operations and freight forwarding business.”
The letter, signed by its founder, Boniface Aniebonam, reads that its understanding of the President Jonathan’s transformation agenda implies a genuine desire to usher in development and prosperity to the Nigerian people.
