EU to Belgium, France: Abolish tax exemptions for Ports

The European Commission has asked Belgium and France to abolish the corporate tax exemptions granted to their ports, so as to align their tax regime with EU state aid rules.

In Belgium, a number of sea and inland waterway ports, notably the ports of Antwerp, Bruges, Brussels, Charleroi, Ghent, Liège, Namur and Ostend, as well as along the canals in Hainaut Province and Flanders, are exempt under Belgian law from the general corporate income tax regime.

NPA clarifies directive on agencies allowed at ports, includes NDLEA

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has given clarification on the agencies of government that are statutorily allowed to operate within the ports in Nigeria.



A statement in Lagos by the Head of Public Affairs of the NPA, Ibrahim Nasiru, said a 2011 Presidential Directive through the Federal Ministry of Transportation listed eight agencies as approved to be at the port.

Nigeria  is set to begin the formal export of certified yams to the United Kingdom and United States from June 29,  according to confirmations given  by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh.



Ogbeh said it is a major achievement for the agricultural sector, adding that the market was lost in the past because of poor quality control and rejection of some of the products.
