Ag. DG NIMASA, Haruna Baba Jauro
The Federal Ministry of Transport has constituted a committee to carry out verification of all projects currently being executed by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

This is contained in a statement by the Head of Public Relations of NIMASA, Hajia Lami Tumaka.

The statement said the committee which has two weeks to conclude its assignment and report to the ministry would be expected to visit the agency’s various projects sites.

Some of the sites include the Nigeria Maritime University, NIMASA Shipyard and Dockyard, NIMASA Science and Technical College, and permanent sites of the six Institutes of Maritime Studies in six Nigerian Universities among others.

The committee, with members drawn from the Federal Ministry of Transport, Federal Ministry of Works and the General Services Unit of NIMASA would do an evaluation of all projects currently being executed by NIMASA.

According to the statement, the evaluation would be done with a view to ascertaining their percentage completion in relation to funds already released.

The Acting Director General of NIMASA Mr Haruna Baba Jauro was quoted as saying that the evaluation was necessary for proper management of the limited resources available to the agency.

He said it would ensure prioritizing projects execution and to avoid poor planning that could result into abandonment of projects that would otherwise be beneficial to the development of the maritime industry.

According to the statement, Jauro lauded the wisdom of the Transport Ministry in including officers from the Federal Ministries of Transport and Works.

He said it would ensure involving necessary experts in the process, with a view to providing a report that would reflect the correct state of the projects.
