The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NEMA) have set up a committee to advance effective strategy for maintenance of the coastal areas within the NPA’s jurisdiction.
This was disclosed in a statement by the NPA in Lagos.

According to the statement, Malam Habib Abdullahi, the Managing Director of the NPA, said the authority would provide meteorological equipment to the pilotage districts to assist NEMA’s duties within the coastal area.
Abdullahi made the disclosure while receiving the Director-General of NEMA, Dr Anthony Anuforom, who paid him a courtesy visit to his office at the NPA headquarters in Marina, Lagos.
“Nigerian Ports Authority will provide meteorological equipment to all pilotage districts within the organisation.
“It will assist the Nigerian Meteorological Agency in taking care of the entire coastal areas of her operations,” the statement reads.
The NPA boss noted that the improved weather forecast aided by advanced technology could be achieved in the maritime industry too.
Abdullahi said that the decision for the support was in line with the NPA’s Corporate Social Responsibility, and considering the importance of the agency’s activities to the NPA’s operations.
It is expected of the committee that was established, to develop strategies and modalities for the maintenance of facilities for uninterrupted provision of services, and how the collaboration benefits both agencies.
Representing the NPA in the committee are Capt. Jerome Angyunwe, an Assistant General Manager, Harbours and Mr Sam Nwigwe, Senior Manager (Radio).
